Apple puts rumors to bed at latest press event

If you follow the technology blogosphere, there is a very good chance you are aware of the term iPad Mini. Today, Apple confirmed that the rumored device is real and the “little more” that the tech giant teased turned out to be a whole lot more than that.

The iPad Mini has a larger screen than initially rumored at 7.9 inches but weighs only 0.68 pounds.

“iPad mini is every inch an iPad, said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPad mini is as thin as a pencil and as light as a pad of paper, yet packs a fast A5 chip, FaceTime HD and 5 megapixel iSight cameras and ultrafast wireless―all while delivering up to 10 hours of battery life.”

The new devices have the same model types as the larger counterpart – Wi-Fi and LTE, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB – but will range in price from$329 to $659. Pre-orders start Friday with the Wi-Fi models shipping on November 2, with the LTE versions heading out two weeks later.

Aside from the new gadget, consumers also got introduced to upgraded versions of a handful of existing product lines. The most surprising one is the fourth generation iPad, which will feature a new A6x processor, lightning connection ports and a slew of new cables. It will be available in all the denominations and price points as its predecessors.

Apple also addressed their personal computer line. After unveiling the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display a few months ago, the company is adding a 13-inch incarnation. The 21.5 and 27-inch iMac got a redesign and the Mac Mini also received an upgrade.

It will not take long for IT departments to start adding this new hardware to their bring-your-own-device (BYOD) strategy. To ensure the tablets and laptops run effectively, companies should partner with an IT consulting firm like CTI Technology.
