Colleges can reduce costs with VoIP services

Just as many small businesses are making the transition to VoIP telephony services to save money, colleges and universities are now beginning to look to cutting-edge business phones as a way to combat their recent financial struggles.

Colleges have primarily made the switch for the voice solutions they provide. For example, colleges with international students or employees can now have them communicate easily on one network without footing the bill for the added costs of overseas calls.

One college that recently made the switch to VoIP business phones is Wagner College, which is located in Staten Island, New York. The institution has roughly 1,800 students, and its officials say the new service will allow it to improve the quality and reliability of its past phone services.

“Given the number of folks shifting to a mobile phone and/or a desk phone environment as their primary voice devices, it makes more sense to keep the door open to changing technologies than investing in solely putting voice on our data network and then having to pay for its ongoing management,” Wagner College’s chief information officer Dr. Dilawar Grewal said in a press release.

Due to the service’s ability to allow education professionals to communicate over long distances, VoIP will have a number of benefits when finally put into use on campus. In offices with VoIP equipment installed, business owners are able to allow their workers to access all of their important work data no matter where they are located. Collegiate officials can expect similar results from their provider.

However, when choosing a company, a long-lasting relationship is best for both parties. Before a college picks the best provider of VoIP services in its area, it should weigh the benefits of working with a provider that can deliver maintenance and installation.
