Flexible workshifting is a growing trend in the business world. Better internet connections and VoIP services have made it so more employees have the ability to work from anywhere.

A new survey from independent market research company Vanson Bourne and commissioned by Citrix relates interviews from 1,100 senior IT decision makers from 11 countries worldwide and found that the trend of flexible workforces is on the rise.

According to the survey, a more flexible work environment increases business agility, productivity and mobility. On top of these benefits, it also improves business and workforce continuity.

By the end of 2013, 93 percent of organizations will have implemented workshifting policies, up from 37 percent where it currently stands. According to respondents, 71 percent of companies use a flexible work schedule to let people work from anywhere, while 63 percent said they use it to allow staff to work from home.

“The business reaps the rewards of a highly mobile and agile business with increased productivity and lower costs while people have the flexibility to choose the ideal time, place and device for their work,” the survey said.

Steve Purdy, managing director of office space provider Regus, explained his company recently carried out research that showed 68 percent of firms had experienced an upturn in productivity as a result of introducing flexible working techniques.

Technological advances are leading the way for this level of workforce flexibility. Cloud computing and unified communication options have made it so that with just an internet connection, employees can plug directly into the office. WIth the help of an IT consultant like CTI Technology, any business can deploy a flexible workforce plan.
