Last week saw two tech giants introduce new products and platforms into the mobile device and tech markets. Apple unveiled the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad while Microsoft launched Windows 8 and the Surface RT tablet. Google was set to grab some headlines of its own but Sandy has put a stop to it – at least for now.
The Frankenstorm hurricane that is currently baring down on the east coast has caused the search engine giant to cancel the announcement – originally scheduled for Monday, October 29 at 10 a.m. in New York City. No makeup date has been announced.
“We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more. Stay safe and dry, The Android Team,” the statement to the media said.
There has been much speculation about what Google will be announcing and now rumors will spin for a few more days. Most of the guess work has surrounded a tablet or smartphone to be coupled with its Nexus 7 device or Key Lime Pie – not the dessert but the latest version of the Android mobile operating system. A 10-inch Nexus tablet has also been making the rounds after video of one appeared on the Web.
The cancellation of the event will allow Microsoft to once again be solo in the tech headlines. The company held their event in San Francisco which debuted the latest version of its mobile operating system, Windows 8 Phone and their branded smartphones that are running the software.
Losing the event is a setback for Google and we will need to wait and see how they proceed and how long we will need to wait until the shroud of mystery is removed. Once the latest innovations are revealed, IT departments will need to take notice and see how they will affect bring-your-own-device policies. IT consulting firms like CTI Technology can help any organization make sure these devices work to maximum efficiency.
