Hubspot case study suggests efficacy of hybrid cloud models

Managed IT consultants can effectively assess a company’s data needs, and suggest an appropriate timeline to roll out a hybrid cloud model that provides optimal characteristics of both private and public systems.

Many business users are recognizing cloud computing as an effective way to expand data storage and access capabilities, but also to address economic issues by alleviating some of the burdens on in-house IT staff

However, there are different types of cloud technology available that address these issues in different ways. For example, when a company initiates a private cloud-hosting initiative, the infrastructure may still prove beneficial for improved data expansion and security, but may suffer from the fact that it must be bought, built and managed by an internal IT staff.

Conversely, publicly operated cloud technology operated exclusively via a managed IT service carries along a different series of intrinsic benefits and obstacles.

Considering the various strengths and weaknesses afforded through both private and public cloud servers, some companies have begun adopting hybrid models that combine aspects of the two.

In fact, a recent article published in IT World details how Cambridge, Massachusetts-based startup Hubspot – a company that manufactures software for businesses to effectively coordinate marketing campaigns – has developed a hybrid cloud system for its data management.

According to the article, during Hubspot’s early years, the company developed a privately-hosted cloud before realizing that more flexibility would be necessary to handle the Big Data inflowing on a daily basis.

As such, Hubspot’s CIO Jim O’Neil set out to create a hybrid model that the article refers to as providing “the peace of mind of keeping important web hosting functions in its private cloud and the flexibility to use public cloud resources when needed.”

Nonetheless, the task requires careful planning. Therefore, before a company decides to take on this project internally, it would benefit company officials from consulting with a provider of VoIP telephony systems that can provide cloud computing solutions.

These experienced consultants can effectively assess a company’s data needs, and suggest an appropriate timeline to roll out a hybrid cloud model that provides optimal characteristics of both private and public systems.
