Small businesses move to VoIP telephony services to cut costs, poll indicates

Many small businesses around the country are looking for ways to save money while increasing their ability to manage their facilities more effectively. However, the best way to do this may be for business owners to stop working with local phone providers due to the high cost they charge for some services.

Because of this driving factor, many business owners have taken steps that will allow them to easily let their employees use cloud computing and access their email and voicemail remotely.

While some business owners think this process will be an expensive undertaking, new research shows their competitors are making the switch precisely because of its ability to help buoy their bottom lines.

For example, according to 8×8, a provider of VoIP services to business, many small business owners make the move to this technology to cut costs. In a survey conducted by the company, 62 percent of the respondents indicated that the reduced cost was the major factor in their switch to VoIP.

In addition, 70 percent said that the features offered by the phones led them to upgrade their current equipment, while another 43 percent cited the flexibility it would provide their workers. This may be most beneficial to companies with a number of locations around the country. With VoIP phones, employees can access the same data on a business’ Chicago phone systems as on their telephony systems in New York.

But, while many companies offer services that can provide these benefits, some differentiate themselves with a superior support network. When looking for a company to help them with their VoIP transition, owners should select an organization with a national network of specialists that can help them tackle any technical problems that may arise.
