Professionals in a number of industries around the world have noted the benefits of adopting a cloud computing solution to free up local data storage capabilities. However, a handful remain concerned regarding the security of these networks.
A recent survey published in the November issue of The American Lawyer – an ALM publication – reported that law firms, in particular, hesitate to switch to cloud computing solutions. Sixty-five percent of respondents said they use the technology for non-critical data storage, but only 8 percent said they save their documents to the cloud.
Furthermore, 61 percent of respondents said their hesitation was caused by security concerns. Clients appear to be the main driver of these worries, said the survey, since many ask the law firms how secure their cloud computing solutions are. These professionals, in turn, express a lack of confidence in how to answer.
In addressing these concerns, many cloud computing providers note that they often have far greater resources to protect and secure users’ data than a local storage unit might have.
In fact, experts say it often takes individual businesses much longer to implement the sophisticated security provisions they need to protect their data than it would for an equipped provider of cloud computing solutions. Industry leaders have called for better education on cloud computing concepts to allay consumers’ fears.
As a result, businesses may be best served by working with a trusted provider of cloud computing solutions that can demonstrate the comprehensive security measures in place and oversee these systems’ management with a careful eye. By learning from a top provider, business owners may, in turn, be able to confidently assuage their own clients’ trepidation regarding cloud computing.
